Envirolution Festival

A festival can be a meeting place for environmental ideas, as well as a day of music, food and making things together.

Envirolution’s free, inclusive festivals have welcomed people of different ages, backgrounds, circumstances and cultures. The festival story began in Manchester in 2010, with community participation at its heart.

Past programmes have brought together interactive workshops, inclusive talks, world music, solar-powered stages, wellbeing activities, children’s games, market stalls, community food and local projects.

Working alongside Platt Fields Market Garden also connected visitors with food growing, permaculture and practical examples of community-led environmental change.

From the Envirolution archive

A return to the park and a citywide climate conversation. These are historical gatherings, not upcoming dates.

  1. Festival return

    Envirolution 2023

After the disruption of the pandemic, Envirolution Festival returned to Platt Fields Park.

Workshops, talks, music, activities and food brought Manchester’s communities together again around practical climate action. The festival’s links with Platt Fields Market Garden connected that gathering with growing and permaculture.

The archived festival highlights recall solar stages, local food and community activity. They describe the 2023 return; their invitation to a future festival should not be read as a new announcement.

  2. Community assembly

Manchester Community Assembly on Climate Change

Envirolution coordinated Manchester’s first community assembly on climate change in 2021.

People from across the city came together to learn about food and agriculture, transport, fashion and retail, buildings and energy, then work on solutions relevant to Manchester.

Participants put forward issues for Manchester City Council, businesses and national government. These were presented as a mandate to City Council representatives at the final event.

Festival applications & participation

Take part in the festival

The festival has been made by people bringing different things to the same space: a stall, a song, a workshop, a conversation or time to help.

Previous application routes covered stalls and vendors, music, talks, workshops and volunteering. These categories preserve how people have taken part, not a currently open application programme.

Ask about future festival participation
Stalls and vendors
Previous routes included information stalls, selling or commercial stalls and food vendors. Applications covered space requirements, equipment hire and organiser meal support.
Music
Bands and acts supplied their genre, set length, requested fee and technical or changeover needs, alongside their contact details.
Talks
Speakers shared a talk title, duration, contact information and access or equipment requirements.
Workshops
Facilitators provided a workshop title and description, with licensing and liability insurance details where requested.
Volunteers
Previous applications asked about availability, access needs and special requirements, including verification for university or project placements where relevant.
Community participation

Events are made by people.

A festival takes more than a programme. Planning, welcoming people, making a space work and packing it all away are part of the story too.

Envirolution’s volunteer material describes these kinds of contribution. They are examples of involvement, not currently advertised vacancies or guaranteed roles.

Planning & coordination

Event planning, logistics, volunteer coordination and administration help connect ideas with the practical work needed to deliver them.

Making the space

Decor, stewarding, setup and pack-down help turn a plan into somewhere people can gather, learn and enjoy being together.

Sharing skills & ideas

Workshops, climate games, writing and communications offer different ways to contribute knowledge and creativity.
